Student Support Services

 

Behavioral Therapy

Our Board-certified behavior analyst at the preschool uses the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to help children:  develop crucial social, communication and learning skills.

They start by conducting assessments to understand the child's strengths and challenges. Based on this, they create and implement individualized behavior intervention plans, which often involve using positive reinforcement to encourage desired behaviors and teaching new skills.

The analyst also trains and supports the preschool teachers, staff, and parents, equipping them with the strategies needed to effectively work with children who have developmental delays or behavioral challenges. They regularly collect and analyze data to monitor progress and make informed decisions about the effectiveness of the interventions. The overall goal is to foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive and be successful.

Speech/Language Therapy

  • Center-Based Preschool Program - Students who need specialized speech-language instruction, receive speech-language services during their school day.
  • Itinerant Model of Service Delivery: Small Group - Students receive speech-language services in a small group setting with the Speech Language Pathologist at the preschool building, usually once a week, for a short period of time (i.e. 25 minute sessions).
  • Itinerant Model of Service Delivery: Speech Class - Students receive speech-language services once a week at the preschool building. The class is 90 minutes in duration and contains up to 6 children. The class is led by an Early Childhood Intervention Specialist in collaboration with a Speech Language Pathologist.
 

Occupational Therapy

  • Fine motor skills – strengthening little hands for writing, coloring, cutting, and using classroom tools.

  • Self-help skills – practicing dressing, zipping, and buttoning.

  • Sensory processing – helping children manage how they respond to sights, sounds, touch, and movement.

  • Play skills – supporting turn-taking, building with toys, and pretend play.

  • Attention and regulation – developing strategies to focus and follow routines

  • Posture and coordination – building balance, core strength, and body awareness for sitting, climbing, and moving safely.

  • Collaboration with teachers and families – sharing strategies so skills carry over into the classroom and at home.

 

Physical Therapy

  • School-based Physical Therapists (PTs) in preschools help kids thrive in their school environment by making sure they can join in on lessons and activities.
  • PT services involve assessing students, providing hands-on support, and working with teachers to modify the classroom to meet each child's needs. This could mean helping kids move around safely, play with their peers, and become more independent while at school. 
  • The Physical Therapy team at preschool strives to design interventions that are fun, functional, and repeatable!
 

Mental Health Specialist

  • Works with students to help navigate big feelings. 
  • Develops intervention strategies, teaches and helps students apply learned strategies to aid in appropriate social interactions and increase academic success. 
  • Works with all students to help them identify feelings and apply healthy coping strategies. 
  • Assists with students with mental health concerns.
